Michael Schumacher becomes a trustee of the FIA Foundation
November 2007 - In late October, Michael Schumacher was elected to the FIA Foundation Board of Trustees. For some years now, the seven-times Formula One World Champion has been a patron and sponsor of the FIA Foundation’s road safety campaigns. He is currently lending his support to the ’Make Roads Safe’ campaign, and before that, he was involved in publicising ’Think Before You Drive’. While he was still a professional racing driver, he took an active interest in the subject of road safety and frequently participated in sessions of the Technical Safety Committee.
"I have been working in close cooperation with the FIA Foundation for some time now and know from my own personal experience what an important contribution they make to this vital issue. I am looking forward to being of some assistance to the Foundation in my new role," said the world championship record holder.
David Ward, Director General of the FIA Foundation, said: "We are really delighted that Michael has agreed to join the Board of Trustees." The Board plays an important role in making strategic recommendations and in activities undertaken by the Foundation in regard to road safety, environmental issues and safety in motor sport. Michael’s knowledge and experience will be extremely useful in the work that we do."
